When I was a kid Thanksgiving meant one thing, the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Over the past 3 years, I've skipped the parade and took the early morning hour long ride to Prospect Park in Brooklyn for the annual PPTC Turkey Trot. It is a great annual race out on by a local running club.
Every year there are great people along the course cheering folks on and just a real sense of community. Club members at the finish draping medals around participant knocks, really makes the race feel special and different then a lot of the other races in New York City.
This year I had a great race, unlike last year I felt strong the entire race. I finished in just over 53 minutes. I had a good and somewhat even pace. The third mile proved to be a little difficult, I had to walk for a minute or two. I think that running a sub 10-minute mile in the first mile really hurt me in the end. I am working hard on running a more even pace. I hope to be running an even sub 11-minute mile for the New York City Half Marathon in March and I think I am on my way to achieving that.
